Ukulele

A GROUP SET UP TO ENJOY THE SOUND AND PLEASURE OF MAKING MUSIC WITH A UKULELE

The ukulele group has been set up within BNB to allow a group of enthusiasts, learners and beginners to play together and in doing so improve and learn this this instrument. This is one of our most popular groups and by all accounts everyone always has a good time.

For those who do not know the ukulele is a stringed-instrument originally from Hawaii that has some similarities to the guitar. ‘Ukulele’ can be freely translated from the Hawaiian to be ‘flea jumping’ – a reference to the speed of the hand and fingers while strumming (or so it is thought). Ukuleles can come in many different forms including; Soprano, Concert, Tenor, and Baritone. The Soprano Ukulele is usually considered to be the standard size Ukulele and the one most used in the group.

From this group we have seen bands formed that are good enough to perform in public, and regular concerts are given for charity.

If you have a desire to learn a simple musical instrument and play together with other like-minded people, then give John a call and become a member of this immensely popular group. The pleasure obtained from just enjoy the company of others while you make music (and have some fun doing it) remains the strongest recommendation for this group.

We positively welcome new members and although previous experience would be desirable, it’s not always necessary. Often an enthusiastic approach and willingness to learn (and practise) are equally important. Some instruments are available upon which to start your musical journey – so no initial expense is required. However if you enjoy it you will want your own instrument the advice on cost, suitability, and availability can be obtained from the experienced members.
